Don Grosh Candy Apple Red

September 2022 – Mass Street Staff Picks

Kyle RalstonYamaha Electric Guitars – Revstar RSS20 – Flash Green
Undoubtedly, one of the best bang for your buck and over looked guitars in the store! This thing has a carbon steel reinforced neck and jumbo STAINLESS FRETS, two features that are almost non-existent for a guitar at this price point. The RSS20 has a couple of great Alnico V pickups, equipped with a 5 way selector and focus switch that emulates overwound pickups that increases lower tonal characteristics and volume. Smooth blues, quacky country, heavy metal, warm jazz, in your face punk…it covers it all…..housed in a chambered mahogany body. Built like a tank with a huge pallet of tones…the RSS20 is a forever guitar at $799!

Brian Soden – Suhr Amps – Bella Reverb – Hand-Wired Combo – Tolex
This Bella combo with reverb is such a fantastic pedal platform amp with rich lows and gorgeous top end voice like a mid-1960s American amp. Whether you’re playing country, blues or classic rock, you can make it happen with this modest combo! I really dig putting a Greer Lightspeed in front of it with a little slap-back delay from the JAM Pedals Delay Llama mk2. Perfection!

Mike Horan – Iris Guitars – DE-11 – Dan Erlewine Model
To my knowledge, this is the first modern production model based on the cool 1930s Kalamazoo KG-11. It has a distinctive small body shape, but with the 14-fret to the body neck. It really growls in the mid-range which I find very satisfying.

Matt Harmon – Source Audio – Zio Analog Front End
This is a great boost. It has a ton of options and might end your search for a boost that works with just about any pedal.

Isaiah Sibi – Eastman Mandolins – MD315-CLA
A great mandolin for those that hope to begin learning or those that already know their way around the instrument. Not only does this mando have a smooth satin finish, but it also has a great tone and plays like butter. We also carry some sweet A styles. Bring it up to the repair shop for its free setup.

Susan Willits – Pisgah Banjos – 11″ Wonder Short Scale
The Pisgah’s are in! The 11″ Wonder is a fun banjo and very comfy to play. Beautiful, with a curly maple neck and rim and aged brass hardware, this banjo has a nice, sweet sound that will keep you strumming!

Matt KappenmanFender Electric Guitars – JV Modified ’50s Telecaster – White Blonde
The Japanese-made vintatge reissues from the early ’80s have become hot on the used market, and this new Fender JV ’50s tele is a fantastic Japanese made reissue of the reissues! Gorgeous white blonde finish, with the cool anodized pickguard and custom wiring turn this one into more than your average tele.
