We’re excited to let you know about some very special events happening at the store, in addition to our regular Free Saturday Workshop series (Uke Left Hand Techniques with Jim Jeans this Saturday, 4/19!)
Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 pm, our friend from Martin Guitars, Steve Strong will be here with a Martin clinician. They’ll be bringing some very special guitars, as well as introducing some new Martin models. There will be some sweet giveaways too, so come on by. Just a few days later on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 pm, we welcome mando master Don Julin, author of ‘Mandolin for Dummies’. He’ll be doing a great mando workshop, Mastering the Mandolin Fingerboard – this workshop is open to all levels and costs $40.
As a special treat, Don will do a short concert after (about 8:30 pm), which will include his music partner, the incredible Billy Strings. Check out Don and Billy tearing it up in this video. But that’s not end of our special events – Monday, May 12 we welcome the great Taylor Road Show back to Mass Street Music. This is one of our favorite events. Our friends from Taylor Guitars will be bringing some special one-of-a-kind guitars along, plus some new models for everyone to try out. We’ll be giving away plenty of strings and Taylor shirts and gear too, so we hope you can join us for this great night. Check out all of our EVENTS & CLINICS here.
You’ll also find us outside of the store, at the very first MixMaster 2014 Music Conference, held at the Bottleneck in Lawrence on Saturday, May 3, starting at noon. We’re proud to help support this great event that offers real, tangible information and advice from professionals for musicians. Panels during the day will cover just about everything: Copyrights, Booking, Contracts, Radio, Promotion and more. The day will culminate in a concert that evening with the Phantastics, Sunu-Forrester, Carswell & Hope and more. It’s just $10 for a full day and evening, with proceeds . We’ll be there with some fun giveaways.
Gear wise, we have some new, seriously amazing guitars and some favorite models with remarkable improvements. Our Collings Guitars offerings are out of this world right now, including this D2H Adirondack Brazilian Varnish that is as good as it gets. We also have some smaller bodied beauties including this Collings 002H Koa and my favorite, this 001 Mahogany. We just received the newly redesigned Taylor 814ce acoustic, which has a more lively, open sound and it’s thanks in part to a slightly thinner bracing design and the use of hide and fish glue which dries harder, giving more stiffness and stability. Even the stalwart starter guitar, the Squier Affinity Strat has made an impression on us with its upgrades – a much smoother neck and better playability, which for a starter guitar, is essential. In the jawdropping department, we received this killer Grosh Retro Classic Hollow T, pictured here. Even unplugged you can tell this red beauty is a keeper – it really sings.
