December 2020 – Mass Street Staff Picks

Josh BaldridgeHarmony Guitars – Juno – Rose
I have always wanted an old Stratotone, and this guitar captures that vibe. The new Harmony necks are on the chunkier side, but not a huge baseball bat size. It is kind of strange to have a bigger neck on this little guitar, but I like it.

Warm, with a surprising amount of volume in a small-body guitar.

Eric Putnam – Don Grosh Guitars – Hollow ElectraJet – Aged Cherry
I am a big fan of Don’s guitars and this is a really special one. This is the first ever hollow ElectraJet! It looks killer, and it is surprisingly versatile. There is something very pleasing about a semi-hollow mahogany guitar with P90s, and it is hard to put down. I am trying very hard not to buy it myself!

Brian Soden – Collings Acoustic Guitars – 2017 D1 T Series – Used – w Traditional Case
What a fantastic example of a gently-loved, early Collings Traditional D1! This particular guitar has opened up very nicely with full-bodied lows and a super sweet top end. It’s one of my favorite guitars in the shop right now and it comes with the original Traditional Case. The total package!

Mike Horan – Harmony Guitars – Silhouette – Slate
We just got our first look at the new Harmony guitars and they are excellent. I especially like the retro-offset-looks of the Silhouette model. Made in the USA with excellent craftsmanship all around, this guitar is way nicer than anything Harmony made back in the 60s!

Trey Durkin – Squier – Paranormal Cyclone Laurel Fingerboard – Shell Pink
This is a radically cool guitar! It catches my eye every time I walk down the stairs. A unique new take on a very classic style guitar. I love the pickup switching, it’s so simple and it just makes sense.

Susan Willits – Ome Banjos – Oracle Professional Series Bluegrass Banjo
We just received an Ome Oracle bluegrass banjo and it’s a beauty! This banjo looks and plays like a dream, with a sparkly, clear tone up and down the neck. It has a 3-ply maple rim, a walnut resonator and neck, with abalone and mother of pearl Oracle inlay. Very classy! Our good friends at Ome make some of the nicest banjos around.

Matt KappenmanWaterloo by Collings – WL-K
I continue to love these catalogue-inspired guitars from the crew at Waterloo/Collings. Focused and dynamic with just the right amount of snarl when you dig into it. This 12-fret Kel Kroydon-esque build feels balanced with a ton of mid-range punch.
