Eric Mardis – Collings Electric Guitars – City Limits – Lemon Burst
I find this City Limits to be the one of the most exciting electric guitars to arrive at the shop in some time. The aesthetic recipe is a nod to the great “bursts” of the late 50s and the ThroBak PG-102 pickups are PAF perfection. This guitar is a stunning example of extreme elegance mixed with a touch of danger.

Marnie Orville – Iris Guitars – DF Natural – Large Pickguard – Ivoroid Binding – Flower Pot
When I’m looking for an acoustic guitar, there are a three things I’m looking for: a dry response, a wide neck, and a good price. This Iris meets all of those. For under $3k you get a that late ’50s Gibson aesthetic, with a banner-era neck, and a big open sound that would make a strong backbone in any jam.

Clark Russell – Ernie Ball Music Man Basses – StingRay Special 4 String H – Classic Natural
The Stingray was Leo’s evolution and next forray into bass design post his tenure at Fender. With its signature single humbucker in the bridge position and as the first commercial bass with active electronics, the Stingray changed the game for bass players, leading to a revolution in sound that keeps them coveted to this day. The Special grew on this design with a lighter body and a 3-band, 18v powered preamp that opened a whole other world of tonal possibilities and boasts incredible bass response and headroom. Perfect for a wide range of genres—funk, metal, RnB, rock, whatever—the Stingray remains king in the bass world for its searing signature treble and power with a long list of fantastic players such as Flea, Tony Levin, Tim Commerford, Joe Dart, etc.

This model we have in-stock pays homage to the original ’70s natural finish with a black pickguard, delivering vintage looks and that modern tone. The neck feel is out of this world; their gun stock oil & premium wax blend glides your hand along with zero impedance. Find out why this bass has left such an indelible mark on the bass community by trying out this gorgeous natural Special at our shop today!

Mike Horan – Collings Acoustic Guitars – C10 Deluxe – Old Growth Sitka
This L-00 inspired body makes a great fingerpicker but sounds really good as an old-timey flatpicker as well. Classic Collings detail work throughout, including a beautifully shaped heel and the elegant “haircut” headstock.

Matt Harmon – Gibson Guitars – 1967 SG Special – Cherry – Used
This is a wonderful example of an affordable vintage guitar that not only sounds amazing but plays great too. P90’s are a very versatile pickup that can have a blooming clean tone to a blistering lead with a turn of the volume knob. With new tall frets and a few modern upgrades that don’t alter the originality of the guitar this SG is ready to play another 59 years.

Isaiah Sibi – Fairbanks Guitars – Salvage Series – F-20 – Sunburst – Sinker Sitka with Old Mahogany
Fairbanks Guitars’ new Salvage Series uses old and reclaimed woods that work perfectly for some of my favorite vintage inspired instruments. This F-20 has an excellent present bass, and a fantastic, dry, smoky sound that gives off some good old vintage vibes. Perfect for old timey guitar rhythm and backup, as well as sitting back to pick and strum in a way that feels comparable to enjoying the company of an old friend.

Susan Willits – Summit Mandolins – 2003 F-100-S – Serial 264
Summit mandolins are wonderful, solid wood mandolins built by Paul Schneider in Nashville, and it’s always a treat to have one here in the store. This F100-S was built with beautiful flamed maple back and sides and a spruce top. It plays like a dream, with very clear, well balanced note separation and a nice punch on the chops. This Summit is in great shape and has been so well cared for you would never guess that it’s 23 years old!

Matt KappenmanGretsch Guitars – G6120T-59 Vintage Select Edition ’59 Chet Atkins Hollow Body with Bigsby – Vintage Orange Stain Lacquer
This is one of those guitars I can’t NOT pick up when I’m near it. I love the vintage Chet/Setzer vibe and the fully hollow build just feels so acoustic and natural.

  1. Tonight as I read over the Mass Street Newsletter, it was with a touch of sadness. I am still in the arduous process of getting used to my new location in Magazine, Arkansas. The move went well, and I think we will be happy here. I want all the good folks at Mass Street to know I will really miss you. I have been a regular at the store for the 14 years I lived in Kansas, and I will always consider myself part of the Mass Street family. Several good friendships were forged there, and it would be difficult for me to trust any of my guitars with any luthier other than Mike. May just have to make a road trip if I need any repairs or need to consign anything. Here’s wishing all of you the very best, and should any of you travel close to Magazine, by all means stop by and play some jazz with me. Paul.
