August 2021 – Mass Street Staff Picks

Kyle RalstonMythos Pedals – Oracle Analog Echo
Based off the Japanese echo pedals of the ’80’s, Mythos created a super useable and bare bones analog delay. The Oracle blends articulated repeats nicely with the perfect amount of modulation to where it doesn’t loose any definition or sound too “syrupy”!

It’s a traditional type of delay build and very easy to use. Boasting up to 600ms of delay time and a tap tempo feature, I found it great for vintage/rockabilly slap back echo to more epic/psychedelic style delays, and with the tap tempo, you can change the speed on the fly.

Yet another rock solid pedal from Zack at Mythos…thos….thos…thos…..

Trey Durkin – Pisgah Banjos – 12″ Rambler Dobson Walnut – Short Scale
What a cool banjo. It has been really great getting to know the Pisgah lineup over the last year or so, and this model really stands out to me. It is basically a modern adaptation of the old Dobson silver bell models (recently popularized by star player Adam Hurt): Spunover style rim, Dobson tone ring, Comfortable walnut neck with Dobson style heel, but with more modern features including 25.5″ scale, 12″ renaissance head, 2-way adjustable truss rod, geared tuners, and fingerboard scoop for easier clawhammer playing. While this banjo can sound great for many styles, the setup and tonal qualities of the Dobson tone ring really make this banjo a monster for playing clawhammer style.
