Eric Mardis – Guitar Pick: Collings Electric Guitars – I-35 LC Vintage – Aged Faded Cherry – Bigsby
I’m a huge fan of the Throbak ESG-102B MXV Neck & Bridge pickups that are in this amazing instrument. This I-35 LC Vintage is my favorite electric guitar currently in the shop!

Eric Mardis – Pedal Pick: Strymon Effect Pedals – Riverside
Ok, I’m very late to the game on this one… Strymon released the Riverside in 2017 and I admit that I dismissed it as “digital”. In truth, the Riverside is a JFET analog circuit that is managed by the DSP. Whatever witchery Strymon has employed, the Riverside is amazing. I’ve been on a quest to get Marshall tones out of a Fender Deluxe Reverb (a big ask), and this pedal has outperformed all comers.

Gabe Kniffen – Fender Electric Guitars – American Performer Series Stratocaster RW – Arctic White
This Stratocaster packs a lot of vintage-style punch mixed with modern playability. The jumbo Frets let you bend as far as your fingers will take you, and the electronics feature additional pickup switching options not often found on a stock Stratocaster. With a deluxe gig bag included, this guitar is a great choice for anybody looking for a guitar that can do it all, while looking great, too.

Clark Russell – Martin Guitars – 2023 Special “Gruhn Spec” 18-Style 0000 Size 12-fret – Used
This 0000-18 “Gruhn Spec” 12 fret is a monster draped in linen, with its powerful growl and robust bass housed in a breathtaking Adirondack and Sinker Mahogany build. Richness and body is this axe’s speciality, and having been spec’d by Gruhn Guitars and built by Martin, it’s easy to see why. The gorgeous sinker mahogany steals the show here with a depth and richness in the dynamics that takes that growl all the way down to a delicate dance if so called for.

Matt Harmon – Collings Electric Guitars – 620 SM LC – Candy Apple Red
I can’t explain how much I love this guitar.
This is the first 620 SM LC I ordered for the store and now I wish I had ordered 4 more!
There is something special here with this guitar, the shape, the feel, and oh my the sound. Acoustically this guitar has an amazing fundamental tone. The slightly deeper body compared to the Statesman and trestle bracing gives this guitar a stronger midrange and clarity while retaining the openness of an arch top and like 470. I can hear those tones plugged in while the Rightness Sound Diadem pickups offer maximum clarity and the chimey airiness of a staple P90 in the neck and more of a pushed wide range humbucker in the bridge. It has just the right combination of vintage and modern vibes. Don’t sleep on this new release from Collings, it’s going to be a hot minute before I can get another.

Isaiah Sibi – JC Baxendale Guitars – D-28 – Natural – Madagascar Rosewood
Crafted by single builder John Baxandale in Durango, Colorado, this acoustic dreadnought has the voicing and feel of an exceptional vintage guitar. This lead playing machine will sound fantastic playing fiddle tunes and holding down the rhythm in jams and band settings.

Susan Willits – Leo Posch Acoustic Guitars – OM Maple
The Leo Posch Maple OM is a gorgeous guitar, built with beautiful flamed maple and bound with rosewood (I love wood binding). It sounds great across the sonic range with clear, sparkly high notes and a full, resonant low end and, like all of Leo’s guitars, it has a lot of volume! I also love the ivoroid bridge pins with abalone dots and the thin green strip in the rosette.

Matt Kappenman – Taylor Acoustic Guitars – Gold Label 517e SB – Firestripe Pickguard
I’m always on the look out for a slope-shoulder dread that brings of a bit of compression while still being responsive and dynamic, and this new Gold Label 517 certainly fits the bill. A big, robust low-end on an open E chord makes all my favorite Hank Williams tunes satisfying to play. The built-in LR Baggs electronics makes it an even better deal for anyone looking to play out.
